The 10 Best Long Sleeping Bags for Tall People
Eight of these ten Long models are rated to fit sleepers up to 6'6". The two exceptions are flagged in their entries, not hidden: the REI Magma Long stops at 6'5", and my own 2020 Spark Long fits 6'4". Ranked for tall backpackers first — fit, honest warmth, and weight — not for whoever pays the best commission.

How this list was built — read this first
- Hands-on, disclosed: Exactly one bag here is one I've personally owned and slept in — my Sea to Summit Spark Long, bought in 2020 (#2). It's marked clearly.
- Everything else is research-ranked on manufacturer-verified specs (fits-to height, fill weight, girth) and consistent owner reports. I have not slept in the other nine, and this page will never pretend otherwise. As bags are tested hands-on, entries will be updated and re-labelled.
- Scoring rubric: true tall fit (fits-to + girth) 30% · warmth honesty (rating + actual fill weight) 25% · weight & packability 20% · value 15% · and a deliberate 10% check that the rank is not ordered by commission — the best-paying bag on this page is not #1, on purpose.
- The 6'2" floor rule: I'm 6'2", and I'm the floor of this page, not the ceiling. Every pick has to still work at 6'5"–6'6", or the entry says exactly where it stops working.

#1 · Best overall for tall backpackers
Western Mountaineering UltraLite Long
Why it ranks here: This is the bag tall backpackers measure everything else against. A true 6'6" Long with 480 g of 850+ fill-power down at under 2 lb, continuous baffles, and a full down collar — and Western Mountaineering's temperature ratings have a long-standing reputation for being honest rather than optimistic. It's a fitted mummy, so broad shoulders should look at the wider Alpinlite (#8) instead. Western Mountaineering sells through retailers only; there's no direct program, and that didn't cost it this spot.

| Insulation | 850+ fill-power down, 480 g fill weight |

#2 · Best ultralight — and the bag I actually own
Sea to Summit Spark Long
Hands-on — the author's own bag. I've owned a Sea to Summit Spark Long since 2020: the 28°F Long version, rated to fit sleepers up to 6'4", with 850+ fill-power down. It's the bag I can vouch for from my own nights out — genuinely ultralight, packs tiny, and at 6'2" the Long gives me the foot room a Regular never did. Two honesty notes: (1) my bag is the 2020 generation — Sea to Summit has updated the Spark line since, so check the current model's specs at the retailer rather than assuming they're identical to mine; (2) a 28°F-class ultralight bag is a three-season tool, not a winter bag, whatever the marketing says. It ranks #2 on weight and my own experience — not because Sea to Summit's program pays well.
| Fits to | 6'4" (author's 2020 28°F Long — verify current model at retailer) |
| Temperature rating | 28°F (author's model) |
| Insulation | 850+ fill-power down |

#3 · Best premium down
Feathered Friends Swallow UL 20 Long
Why it ranks here: The highest fill power on this list — 950+ fill-power goose down, 505 g of it in the Long — in a 1 lb 12 oz bag, handmade in Seattle by a company that publishes real fill weights and doesn't inflate ratings. The Long is a true 6'6" fit and costs just $20 more than the Regular ($679 vs $659), the fairest Long upcharge in the business. If budget were no object and I were buying a second bag, this is the one I'd buy.
| Fits to | 6'6" (198 cm) |
| Temperature rating | 20°F (manufacturer rating) |
| Insulation | 950+ fill-power down, 505 g fill weight |
| Weight (Long) | 1 lb 12 oz |

#4 · Best warm-weather / wider Western Mountaineering
Western Mountaineering MegaLite Long
Why it ranks here: The UltraLite's roomier, warmer-weather sibling: a wider cut than the UltraLite, 370 g of 850+ down, a 30°F rating, and just 1 lb 11 oz in the Long. For summer alpine and three-season trips that don't push below freezing, it's the better-balanced bag — and the width makes it the Western Mountaineering pick for bigger frames that find the UltraLite's 60" shoulder girth tight.
| Fits to | 6'6" (200 cm) |
| Temperature rating | 30°F (manufacturer rating) |
| Insulation | 850+ fill-power down, 370 g fill weight |
| Weight (Long) | 1 lb 11 oz (770 g) |

#5 · Best for side sleepers
NEMO Disco 15 Long
Why it ranks here: NEMO's Spoon shape adds real room at the elbows and knees, which is exactly where tall side sleepers get bound up in a classic mummy. The Long genuinely fits 6'6", the 15°F rating with 1 lb 9 oz of 650-fill down is honest working warmth, and the Thermo Gill vents help in shoulder season. You pay for the comfort in weight — 2 lb 15 oz — but for tall sleepers who toss and turn, owner reports are consistently the happiest on this list.
| Fits to | 6'6" (198 cm) |
| Temperature rating | 15°F |
| Insulation | 650 fill-power down, 1 lb 9 oz fill weight |
| Weight (Long) | 2 lb 15 oz |
| Price | ~$300–360 (Oct 2026) |

#6 · Most room — the wide option
Big Agnes Anvil Horn 15 Long / Wide Long
Why it ranks here: Big Agnes builds bags as sleep systems: the Flex Pad Sleeve keeps the bag attached to your pad all night, and the Wide Long is the roomiest verified option here — 78" long with an 80" chest girth. If you're tall and broad, this is your bag. The trade-offs: it needs an insulated pad underneath to work as rated (the sleeve replaces bottom insulation), and it's not the lightest. Long is 2 lb 12 oz; Wide Long is 3 lb 1 oz.
| Fits to | 6'6" (Wide Long: 78" long, 80" chest girth) |
| Temperature rating | 15°F |
| Insulation | 650 fill-power DownTek water-repellent down |
| Weight | 2 lb 12 oz (Long) · 3 lb 1 oz (Wide Long) |

#7 · Best value in 850-fill down — with a fit flag
REI Co-op Magma 15 Long
Why it ranks here: 850-fill down and under 2 lb for $389 is value nobody else on this list matches, and REI's member returns policy de-risks the purchase. The flag: REI's own guidance puts the Long at 6'0"–6'5" in a 78" bag — so this is the one pick that does not carry the full 6'6" promise. At 6'2"–6'4" it's a great buy. At 6'5"+, pick anything else on this page.
| Fits to | 6'5" per REI guidance (78" length) — see flag above |
| Temperature rating | 15°F (ISO Comfort 28°F) |
| Insulation | 850 fill-power down |
| Weight (Long) | 1 lb 14.6 oz |
| Price | $389 (Oct 2026) |

#8 · Best wide premium mummy
Western Mountaineering Alpinlite Long
Why it ranks here: Take the UltraLite's warmth recipe — 20°F, 850+ down — and widen the cut, with the heaviest fill weight on this page (595 g). It's the premium answer for tall, broad-shouldered back sleepers who find standard mummies claustrophobic. It ranks below the UltraLite only on weight (2 lb class) and a higher, wider price range; exact Long pricing varies by retailer, so check before you buy.
| Fits to | 6'6" (200 cm) |
| Temperature rating | 20°F (manufacturer rating) |
| Insulation | 850+ fill-power down, 595 g fill weight |
| Weight (Long) | ~2 lb 1 oz (934 g) |
| Price | $625–788 range (Oct 2026 — verify the Long price at the retailer) |

#9 · Best synthetic / wet-weather budget comfort
NEMO Forte 20 Long
Why it ranks here: The Disco's Spoon shape in a synthetic build: it keeps insulating when damp, shrugs off wet tents and coastal trips, and costs $199.95. NEMO offers it in Long and Long Wide, both fitting 6'6". Synthetic means heavier and bulkier — 3 lb 2 oz — so it's the pick for wet climates, car-to-trail versatility, and anyone who doesn't want to baby a down bag.
| Fits to | 6'6" (198 cm; Long Wide also available) |
| Temperature rating | 20°F |
| Insulation | Synthetic (recycled Zerofiber) |
| Weight (Long) | 3 lb 2 oz |
| Price | $199.95 (Oct 2026) |

#10 · Best budget
Kelty Cosmic Down 20 Long
Why it ranks here: The cheapest honest way into a real down bag that actually fits: a true 84" Long fitting 6'6", 550-fill duck down, and $184.95. Read the rating honestly — its ISO Comfort figure is 32°F, so treat it as a fair-weather three-season bag, not a 20°F bag. At this price that's a fair trade, and it's the bag I'd hand a tall friend getting into backpacking.
| Fits to | 6'6" (198 cm; 84" length) |
| Temperature rating | 20°F (ISO Comfort 32°F — plan accordingly) |
| Insulation | 550 fill-power duck down |
| Weight (Long) | 2 lb 15 oz |
| Price | $184.95 (Oct 2026) |

How to actually buy a bag when you're tall
- "Long" is a label, not a standard. On this page alone, Long means fits-to anywhere from 6'4" to 6'6". Always check the fits-to number and the actual bag length — 84" is a real tall bag; 78" is a regular in disguise for anyone over 6'4".
- What Long costs you: usually less than you fear. Feathered Friends charges +$20 for the Swallow Long over Regular. The weight penalty is typically 1–3 oz. Never let price or grams talk you into a Regular that ends at your ankles.
- Ratings aren't standardized across brands. Where an ISO Comfort figure exists, plan around it (see the Cosmic, #10) — the big number on the hangtag is often the Limit rating. Fill weight and fill power together tell the warmer truth.
- Girth matters as much as length. Over 6'2" and broad? Prioritise the Anvil Horn Wide Long (#6), the Alpinlite (#8), or NEMO's Spoon bags (#5, #9) over any slim mummy.
What's next
This guide is the first in the Tall Camper sleep-system cluster. Next: long & wide sleeping pads, then backpacking tents for tall people — with the same rules: verified specs, honest hands-on labels, and the popular picks that fail tall sleepers named out loud. See About for the full methodology.
One more time, plainly: one bag on this page is hands-on (the Spark, #2 — mine since 2020). The other nine are research-ranked from verified specs and owner reports, and are labelled that way. If that ever changes for a product, its entry will say so.
Full disclosure.
